From Canon Jeremy Martineau

Sir, — Letters (9 January) focused on the need for strategic research. The Centre for Studies in Rural Ministry has, for seven years, offered an MA that focuses on strategic research in practical theology in the local situation.

The Arthur Rank Centre and St Deiniol’s Library jointly sponsor the course. Students’ work is guided to provide not just personal satisfaction, but evidence that can enlighten church leaders on many aspects of the Churches’ ministry and mission in rural areas. Students can come for a supervised sabbatical and continue to study for the MA.

Current work, chosen by students, includes the role of the primary school in the life of the village, the role of the administrator in the rural benefice, and how to test a team ministry for its effectiveness — to name a few. As course tutor, I welcome enquiries to jfmartineau@onetel.net.
