Sir, — Nurse Caroline Petrie was suspended for offering prayer to a patient (News, 6 February) because the Nursing Midwifery Council’s (NMC’s) code of practice states that “you must not use your professional status to promote causes that are not related to health.”

Presumably we can deduce that that the NMC does not believe that spiritual health has anything to do with physical health, and that the National Health Service should stop employing hospital chaplains!
