From Canon John Foskett
Sir, — I was very sorry to read that eight bishops and 400 other pilgrims were flying to Lourdes in September (News, 1 February). Why are they flying, and adding so much to our carbon footprint, when travel to France by Eurostar and TGV is now so much easier and more comfortable, as well being so much kinder to our planet and its ecology?
Surely it is time that all our travel to the continent followed the example of the Bishop of London and let the train take the strain. Perhaps it is still not too late for members of the Society of Mary to exchange their air tickets for rail fares. The new Chaplain to St Pancras would surely assist them in this act of charity.
