UK archives saved by US

by
03 January 2008

THE Keston Institute’s unique archive, documenting religion in communist countries, is to be saved from decay by Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

The Keston Center for Religion, Politics and Society will operate within the J. M. Dawson Institute of Church-State Studies at Baylor.

The Keston Institute was founded by Canon Dr Michael Bordeaux in Kent in 1969.

Dr Bordeaux said during a visit to Baylor last November: “I’m entirely positive about this wonderful new stage in our work,” but said there was “sadness that an archive built up in the UK could not find any university that could guarantee its security against deterioration”.

The archive will remain open, and Keston will continue its work in the UK raising funds for future students.
