THE Archbishop of Kenya, the Most Revd Benjamin Nzimbi, has rebuffed the former Bishop of Harare, Nolbert Kunonga. The province of Kenya, which is not sending bishops to the Lambeth Conference, was approached by Kunonga with a view to some sort of association. Kunonga has attempted to portray his split with his own province, Central Africa, as a disagreement over homosexuality rather than one about power and corruption.
At a press conference at GAFCON, Archbishop Nzimbi said: “The Bishop of Harare [sic] came to see us about this subject, and what we answered was that Harare belongs to the province of Central Africa, which is being led by the Dean of that province, and that this problem should be handled by that province. He should take this matter to that Dean. . .
“There are many problems, many challenges in the diocese of Harare. But when you face a challenge, you don’t run and say, ‘I want to join another province.’”
