From the Rt Revd John D. Davies
Sir, — Thank you for your quotation of the Bishop of Liverpool’s apology for his part in the matter of Dr Jeffrey John and the bishopric of Reading (News, 8 February). This is the most moving, most exemplary, and most encouraging thing I have read for a very long time.

I was enthusiastic for Dr John’s appointment, and very dismayed that it was not fulfilled. So Bishop Jones’s words come to me as if personally addressed to me, and I am more grateful for them than I can express.
