MP serves breakfast

by
10 June 2008

THE Minister for Faith Communities, Stephen Timms MP (right in photo), helped served breakfast when he visited the Archer Project at Sheffield Cathedral. Mr Timms, an active Anglican, is a strong supporter of the Churches and relationships with other people of God, and argues that faith is a starting point for involvement in politics and community work.

So he was very glad to spend an hour seeing the Cathedral’s work with the homeless and vulnerable in the new Community Centre, helping Maggie Durrand to serve breakfast, and talking to some of the regulars, Canon Joanne Grenfell says. He was accompanied by Paul Blomfield (left) chairman of the District Labour Party. The Archer Project, under its manager, Tim Renshaw (second left), offers food, medical care with dentistry, and practical support and training, including IT training.

Most of that happens on the lower floor of the Community Centre while upstairs there is a conference room which, Dr Grenfell says, is a centre for debating what goes on in the city, and how to engage with its issues.
