Using the Bible in Christian Ministry: A workbook by Stephen Pattison, and Margaret and Trevor Cooling, is part of a three-volume series about using the Bible in pastoral practice. It is designed for those who have some theological and ministerial experience, and it can be used by individuals, or in a group setting. Some of the topics that the authors cover are: difficult texts; using the Bible in pastoral visiting; using the Bible in small groups; biblical authority; and using the arts to enhance understanding of the Bible (Darton, Longman & Todd, £14.95 (£13.45); 978-0-232-52681-3).

We Don’t Do That Tune, Vicar: More disharmony in the choir is the latest book by Reginald Fray in his series of humorous stories about singing in a church choir. These are born of his experience of life in the choir stalls over nearly 70 years. As the title implies, the common thread in the 23 stories in this volume is the tune to which hymns are sung (Canterbury Press, £7.99 (£7.20); 978-1-85311-837-1).
