IN Justin Martyr on Baptism and Eucharist (Joint Liturgical Studies No. 64) Colin Buchanan translates passages from Parsinus Graecus 450; he also provides commentary and an introduction (SCM-Canterbury Press, £5.95 (£5.35); 978-1-85311-905-7).

St Gregory the Great’s The Book of Pastoral Rule is a guide for sixth-century clergy, laying out their obligations and duties regarding the spiritual life of those they lead. This translation is by George Demacopoulos, who has added an introduction (St Vladimir’s Seminary Press, £10.99 (£9.89); 978-0-88141-318-2).

Simon Gathercole’s The Gospel of Judas analyses the relationship between this acanonical text and the New Testament Gospels, as well as providing a translation of the text, and commentary on it. He examines the claims made by the Gospel of Judas, and by scholars and the media, and considers what the text tells us about the Church of its day (Oxford University Press, £16.99 (£15.29); 978-0-19-922584-2).

Other Early Christian Gospels, edited by Andrew Bernhard, contains the Gospels of Thomas and of Peter; the Unknown Gospel; and fragments from unidentified gospels. The Greek texts are given with an English translation, a general introduction, a guide to the editorial method, bibliography, and black-and-white plates of some of the texts (T. & T. Clark, £30 (£27); 978-0-567-04568-3).
