THE Archbishop of Sydney, Dr Peter Jensen, has still not decided whether he and his regional bishops will attend the Lambeth Conference (News, 4 January).
In an interview with a Melbourne journalist, Dr Jensen said that the argument in favour of attending was that unity was still a possibility, and that conservatives should be there to add their voice.
The argument against was that Lambeth had lost its authority, and the worldwide Anglican Church was devolving in the same way that the British Empire devolved into the Commonwealth.
Archbishop Jensen has emerged as a key leader of the Global Anglican Future Conference, to be held in Jerusalem in June (News, 4 January).
