The Dean and Chapter of Manchester Cathedral are advertising a "Da
Vinci mass" with a spoof of the Da Vinci Code poster (seen above).
In the line-up are Canon Andrew Shanks, Canon Anne Hollinghurst, the Very
Revd Rogers Govender, Canon Robin Gamble, and the Ven. Andrew Ballard.
Controversy continues about the film, which opens today. An ORB poll of 1005
adults found that 60 per cent of those who had read the novel thought that
there was truth to the claim that Jesus had fathered a child with Mary
Magdalene; 17 per cent thought that Opus Dei was a murderous sect. India has
delayed the launch of the film in response to protests; and Christians in
Thailand have urged censors to cut the final 15 minutes.
