This stained-glass window in the Chapter House at Lincoln Cathedral commemorates a long inquisition held there into the Order in 1310. No charges were, in the event, brought against it.
The picture comes from In Search of the Knights Templar: A guide to the sites in Britain, by Simon Brighton (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, £20 (£18); 0-297-84433-4). The publishers say it is the first comprehensive guide to the Templar buildings to be found in this country.
