Chaplain statistics for the First World War

Sir, - An error crept into the printed version of my article "How the C of E faced a world war" (Features, 7 November). The first sentence of the first paragraph on page 23 originally read: "Of the 185 chaplains who were killed or died as a result of the war, 111 were Anglicans."

The total number of Anglican clergy commissioned as chaplains during the war was 3030 (not as in the printed text "more than 1000").
