Sir, — As a former pupil of the Bluecoat School in Liverpool, and as the eldest of four brothers who spent more than 18 years at the school, may I add my surprise to that of the head, Sandy Tittershills, that Liverpool diocese is claiming it to be a C of E school (News, 11 February).

While we went to chapel each week, we certainly did not think of ourselves as a church school. The two church secondary schools in Liverpool were St Margaret’s for boys and St Hilda’s for girls.
