New unity and order commission

The Archbishop of Canterbury and the secretary-general of the Anglican Communion have announced the membership of a new commission for ecumenical work and Anglican order. The Inter-Anglican Standing Com­mission for Unity, Faith and Order will start its work in December 2009. It aims to:

• promote deepening communion between the Anglican Communion and other Christian Churches;

• advise provinces, Primates, the Anglican Consultative Council, and the Archbishop of Canterbury on ecumenical questions, as well as those of Anglican faith and order;

• review developments in faith, order, and unity in the Communion and among ecumenical partners, and give advice on them to the Churches of the Communion and the Instruments of Communion;

• assist any province in assessing new proposals in unity, faith, and order, as requested.

The 20 members of the com­mission are: the Most Revd Bernard Ntahoturi, Archbishop of Burundi (chairman); the Rt Revd George Titre Ande (Congo); the Ven. Professor Dapo Asaju (Nigeria); Canon Paul Avis (England); the Rt Revd Philip D. Baji (Tanzania); Canon Alyson Barnett-Cowan (Canada); Canon John Gibaut (WCC Commission on Faith and Order); the Rt Revd Howard Gregory (Jamaica); the Revd Dr Katherine Grieb (USA); Canon Clement Janda (Sudan); the Revd Dr Edison Muhindo Kalengyo (Uganda); the Rt Revd Victoria Matthews (New Zealand); Canon Charlotte Methuen (England); the Revd Dr Simon Oliver (England); the Rt Revd Professor Stephen Pickard (Australia); Dr An­drew Pierce (Ireland); Canon Michael Nai Chiu Poon (Singapore); the Revd Sarah Rowland Jones (South Africa): the Revd Dr Jeremiah Yang (Korea); the Rt Revd Tito Zavala (Chile).
