Methodist warning over NHS drug ruling
A SPOKESMAN for the Methodist Church warned of ethical questions for Churches and a “two-tier healthcare system” after the Government announced that it would allow NHS patients to buy drugs that were not available on the NHS. The ruling reversed an earlier government decision that that those who “topped up” their treatment would lose their entitlement to free healthcare. This means that there could be an “economy class” for those who could not afford to pay extra, and a “first-class system” for those who could, Paul Morrison, public issues policy adviser for the Methodist Church, said in a press release on Wednesday.
