Congregation required for Songs of Praise

23/10/2009 14:20:00

Free Songs of Praise tickets are proving hard to give away it would appear. A congregation is required for four services in Cambridge this weekend. You can choose between a 'sound recording', which one presumes is for those with a good voice who look unattractive, or a 'vision recording', which must be for those who can't sing for toffee but look stunning.

Congregation needed for Songs of Praise. Our Communications Officer, Val Robson, has been contacted by a BBC Producer for ‘Songs of Praise’. They are seeking people to be part of the congregation for the recording of two programmes of *"Songs of Praise" conducted by John Rutter in Great St Mary’s this weekend*. Apparently take up of tickets via the usual methods of gathering audiences has produced a very poor response so the BBC are keen to get this message out to all and sundry that they are invited to /any /or /all /of these recordings.

More here: Songs of Praise.

This is sad news to read. Are there really not enough John Rutter fans in Cambridge to make up the numbers?
Or perhaps there is something else happening here with "Songs of Praise". I wonder if the programme is watched by many church goers these days? It does come on at the same time that many churches will have having evening services of course.

I remember a Songs of Praise children's special filmed in St Mungo's in Glasgow many years ago. The St Mungo's kids were put at the back with us, from the second nearest school, and kids from a rich school from out-of-town got the front seats. Thus began my initiation into realising "Auntie" wasn't as impartial as she should be.
