GAFCON begins

22/06/2008 22:40:00

GAFCON, the 'Global Anglican Future' Conference has begun in Jerusalem.

First of all a roundup of some of the many news reports from the past couple of days:

This evening Peter Akinola, Archbishop of Nigeria gave an opening address:

There was then a press conference - a transcript by Matt Kennedy of the conservative 'Stand Firm' blog is here: GAFCON: Live Blog of Day 1 Press Conference (includes a question from the Church Times)

Ruth Gledhill has filed a report for the Times saying that the formation of an Anglican Fellowship would be the 'most likely outcome' of the current divsions. Read more here: Rebel Anglican bishops plan refuge for orthodox views

The Bishop in Jerusalem, Suheil Dawani addressed GAFCON participants during a service of Evening Prayer at St. George's Anglican Cathedral in Jerusalem. Episcopal Life has a report with a link to the text of the transcript: Jerusalem bishop calls GAFCON participants to reconciliation, not division

A number of bloggers and others are at the GAFCON conference:

  • I hope to post one or two updates from Paul Handley of the Church Times
  • If you are very lucky you might catch some of the live GAFCON video stream provided by 'Anglican TV'. It did work for a few minutes earlier on this evening. I heard a hymn.
  • Ruth Gledhill, as mentioned above
