WHEN The Other Hand was first published in hardback in
2008, it sold only 3000 copies. Eighteen months later - despite
little marketing - it had shot up the Sunday Times and
New York Times bestseller lists, and at least 300,000
paperback copies had flown off the shelves. It is currently being
made into a film starring Nicole Kidman.
Readers, it seemed, couldn't get enough of the novel, and were
