Homeless totals rise; spend falls

THE number of people who are made homeless has increased by 25
per cent over the past three years, at the same time as public
spending on homelessness has fallen, a new study suggests.
The data company SSentif reports that 50,290 households were
identified as "priority homeless" by councils in England in
2011/12, an increase of 6130 on the previous year. The largest
increases in numbers being made homeless were recorded in
Birmingham, which reported 3929 households as homeless, ...
