Octavia Hill dies

AT THE age of seventy-four Miss Octavia Hill, a lady long known
for her good works, has passed away. Influenced in her youth by the
teaching of F. D. Maurice, Miss Hill was led to devote her life to
the service of the poor. In a scheme which she originated, for the
purpose of providing decent and wholesome houses for poor tenants,
she was fortunate enough to enlist the co-operation of Mr Ruskin,
by whose generous aid she was able to make a humble beginning with
three cottages in a poor ...
