Higher-education cuts put church universities at risk

HEADS of the 15 church universities and colleges in the Cathedrals Group say that their institutions face an uncertain future after heavy cuts announced by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). The group’s vice-chancellors and principals will voice their fears at their annual conference in Canterbury this weekend.

They will tell Sir Alan Langlands, the HEFCE chief executive, due to speak at the conference today, that expected cuts of almost 17 per cent between 2011 ...
