Training to be tougher

A CONSERVATIVE government would make it harder for would-be teachers to be accepted for training, David Cameron announced this week. Only those with a 2.2 degree or better would be funded for postgraduate courses, and all applicants would need at least a B grade in English and Maths at GCSE instead of a C as at present. Raising the status of the teaching profession was essential to improving schools and closing the gap between rich and poor, Mr Cameron said on Monday.
