Grass-cutter in chief

JO DAVIES never has been a conventional clergy wife, says her husband, the Dean of Brecon, the Very Revd John Davies (left in picture). She is a senior staff nurse in the intensive-care unit at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, and so has a very demanding life of her own. But she has always enjoyed mowing grass, ever since she was a child, the Dean tells me. And so her contribution to the life of the cathedral that serves the diocese of Swansea & Brecon is regularly to cut the two acres of grass which surround it. She says she finds it very relaxing after the intensity of her hospital life, and the people of Brecon say they have never seen the cathedral grounds so well kept.
