Equipping the military

A US SITE,
www.booksforsoldiers.com, co-ordinates sending books, DVDs and "care
packages for the mind" to US military personnel serving overseas.
The site has an online bulletin board with the names and addresses of
soldiers, airmen, marines and servicemen in hospital. Users are invited to
scroll through the names and pick someone whose request is unfulfilled.
"Try to send what the soldier requests, especially so if they request
religious materials," the site advises. There is a warning not to send
pornography, as it is illegal in most countries where the soldiers are serving.
Requests range from "Anything from Dean Koontz and MINTS" to cookbooks by Betty
Crocker. Some soldiers ask simply for messages of support. The books sent need
not be new.
The charity tries to fulfil requests that remain unanswered by the general
public, and so appreciates donations, which can be made online via PayPal.
