A last headline about the Crusaders

Sir, — Dr John Pridmore’s experience of the Crusader movement
(Diary, 12 May) was quite unlike what I experienced as a member of a north
London Crusader class in the mid-1940s. The joint leaders were, respectively,
Baptist and Methodist.
Far from regarding Anglicans and others with suspicion, however, they
strongly encouraged each of us to worship at the church of our own denomination.
It is to them that I trace my early discovery of the excitement of
scripture, the beauty of liturgy, and the good sense of adopting an open-minded
approach to both Word and worship. Thanks to them, 60 years on, I am happily
able to pass on these treasures as a Reader in the Church of England.
