These ministries have much to teach others

From the Bishop of Dorchester
Sir, — I was saddened by the negative tone of the article on the report on Cutting Edge Ministries in the Oxford diocese (News, 19 September).

What it failed to reflect was the excitement and enthusiasm with which those involved in these ministries have taken them forward in the service of Christ and his Church. It is true that in writing the report, we wanted to be clear about some of the difficulties we had encountered along the way — not least because we did not want others to make the same mistakes that we had.

We also always saw this as something that could be of a benefit to the wider Church, and I was delighted by these words from Steven Croft in the report’s afterword:

“The Cutting Edge Ministries project has been an inspiring initiative from beginning to end and in my view has had a very significant impact across the Church of England and beyond.”

My hope, therefore, would be that your readers would look at the report for themselves and discover some of the great things God has been doing through Contemplative Fire, Discovery Days, hOME, i-Church, JAC and MayBe.
