Anglican congestion
![]() |
| From Sheelagh Wurr Sir, — On Saturday, I joined the pilgrimage in Salisbury walking from Old Sarum to the Cathedral, as part of the 750th celebrations. As we approached the Cathedral Close, we came to a standstill. The reason for the hold-up soon became clear. A bishop was trying to drive his car into the Close. With more than 800 pilgrims trying to enter by foot, and a further number of tourists trying to get out, his car was completely stuck. He persisted in edging forward against the crowds surrounding him. Equally, the crowd was not to be deterred, and pushed on regardless of his efforts. It occurred to me that this was rather an appropriate reflection of certain aspects of the Church of England. I will leave others to continue the analogy.
