Dr Williams meets the Dalai Lama
THE Archbishop of Canterbury welcomed the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, to Lambeth Palace last Friday for an interfaith meeting also attended by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor. Dr Williams said that a “warm and searching discussion took place, and the meeting ended with a time of shared silence”. The Prime Minister also had a closed-door meeting with the Dalai Lama at Lambeth Palace. The decision not to hold it in Downing Street was criticised as kowtowing to China over its actions in Tibet, a charge that Mr Brown denies. |
