THINGS heated up this week in the Church Times Cricket Cup competition, as the sun shone and two more matches were completed.
Worcester defeated Gloucester by a single run on Monday, in a thrilling match at Birdlip. Worcester batted first, and scored 211 for 9. Finch and Agnew batted well, both making near-half-centuries (46 and 45 runs respectively). Of the bowling, Busk and Boon took two wickets each.
In reply, Gloucester made good progress towards the target, with Allen scoring 78 and Jefferson 74. But Worcester displayed some disciplined bowling, especially by Finch, who took 3 for 20, and Gloucester fell just short of the 8 runs required off the final over.
Four runs were needed from the last ball, but after two were scored their man was run out and they finished 210 for 5.

Hart — a former captain of Walsall FC — made 75 not out, including 40 off his first 11 playable balls. Jackson, the Archdeacon of Walsall, made 48, and Morgan 37.
