Carrying on with the success

THE SCHEME was meant to last only one year. All Saints’, Wribbenhall, just outside Bewdley, in Worcester diocese, would open its doors every Monday, offering two-hour slots to any organisation that could help the community. No fewer than 53 charities and organisations have taken advantage of this opportunity to offer their specialist advice, counselling, or training. They are now running two ten-week computer courses, and there have been sessions for children led by the Pre-School Learning Alliance, and two training days in arts therapy. |

The county archaeological society, the county mobile museum, and the local history group have attended, and there has been a visiting nurse, and a programme for people with long-term illnesses. The chairman of the project’s finance committee, Peter Williams, tells me they are helped by the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service, Pension Service, and community workers. At every session, the Monday Girls (above) provide tea and coffee. Modest funding has been raised locally and from the Lottery, and although they now need more, the scheme has proved so successful that they are determined to keep it going. |
