Gloucester win over Coventry in CT cricket

APRIL SHOWERS heralded the start of the cricket season and the return of the Church Times Cricket Cup. Gloucester beat a depleted Coventry side by 9 wickets in a match played at Birdlip, on Monday of last week. Coventry batted first and were all out for 89, with Alderman scoring 42 and Birch 24. In among the wickets were Allen who took 2 for 17, Race who took 2 for 20, and MacCauley who took 2 for 25. In reply, Gloucester easily reached the target, reaching 94 for 1 well within the 40 overs. Jessop finished on 44 not out, and Allen was unbeaten on 30 not out. Jessop, the Gloucester captain, praised Coventry for putting out a side despite struggling for players. Coventry 89 all out (Alderman 42, S. Birch 24; Allen 2 for 17, Race 2 for 20, MacCauley 2 for 25). Gloucester 94 for 1 (Jessop 44 not out, Allen 30 not out). Gloucester won by 9 wickets.
