IT DID NOT take long for the jokes to begin. “I was so worried about swine flu that I phoned the NHS Direct helpline; but all I got was crackling.” “I think I might have got it, because I’m covered in rashers.” But my favourite was from a friend whose daughter asked whether we might all get swine flu and bird flu at the same time. “Pigs might fly,” was his reply.
