| Convert flees Jordan to save children
A 40-year-old Jordanian convert to Christianity, Muhammad Abbad Abd al-Qeder Abbad, fled his country with his wife and two children on 28 March, after he was warned that a sharia court would take his children away because of his conversion. The family are now in Europe, Middle East Concern reports.
Sri Lankan Bishop condemns ‘tragedy’
THE Bishop of Colombo, the Rt Revd Duleep de Chickera, spoke of “our sad and worsening tragedy”, after 24 people died and many were injured when a bomb, placed on a bus, exploded at a depot in Piliyandala, south of Colombo, last Friday. He said that the war in Sri Lanka was senseless. He also condemned the killing of a Roman Catholic priest, Fr Karunairatnam, in another incident, which was believed to be the work of the Tamil Tigers.
Episcopal Church goes to US court for files
THE EPISCOPAL Church in the United States and the diocese of San Joaquin have filed a court action to reclaim diocesan records, personal property, and bank accounts. They say that the deposed bishop of the diocese, the Rt Revd John-David Schofield, has not responded to a request to leave the diocesan offices in Fresno (News, 4 April). The Provisional Bishop, the Rt Revd Jerry Lamb, has told the diocese that there was no legal action under way that involves individual church properties.
Franklin Graham returns to evangelise China
FRANKLIN Graham, the son of the evangelist Dr Billy Graham, is to preach this month at the 6000-seat Ceong Yi in Hangzhou, which is believed to be the largest church in China. “I have a common history with China. My mother was born in China, my grandparents were medical missionaries here, and I’ve been travelling here for more than 30 years,” he said.
