Secret almsgiving

From Julian Elloway
Sir, — Ruth Ward (Faith, 29 February) describes pressure to say “what is characteristic about distinctively Christian almsgiving”. Surely, one distinctive characteristic (and frequently a contrast with the secular world), following Matthew 6.2-4, must be that it is not done “so that they may be praised by others”, but “that your alms may be done in secret”.
