The Church takes the National Lottery’s shilling

Sir, — You reported (News, 29 February) that Chichester Cathedral has secured funding to mark the building’s 900th anniversary. You omitted to tell your readers that the funding has come from the National Lottery. This is not an isolated case, and, after the General Synod’s condemnation of gambling, how can the Church of England justify such duplicity?
