by Margaret Duggan
![]() |
| THE Bishop of Argyll & The Isles, the Rt Revd Martin Shaw (above), will be singing the part of Christ in two performances of Bach’s St John Passion with the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union on 15-16 March. The performances will be in St Cuthbert’s, Edinburgh, and in Dunblane Cathedral the following evening. |

| Before moving to Scotland, Bishop Shaw was Precentor at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, and sang the same part alongside Peter Pears. As well as being a musician, Bishop Shaw is known for his great love of the historic Celtic spirituality of his diocese. When the Scottish Episcopalian General Synod was discussing last year whether it could afford all seven of its separate dioceses, he said that he had no interest in holding on to his diocesan structures so long as he could continue to be a missionary in his beloved Argyll and its islands. |
