| THEY BEGAN by measuring the oven to see how big a piece of gingerbread they could bake, and how many. The youth group from Bath Abbey in Bath & Wells diocese had already worked out the dimensions of their church to scale.
Once the pieces of cake were cooked, they were iced together as they constructed the model of the Abbey, beginning with the tower. Then, with icing, they added the stained-glass windows and the angels (above). They ate the leftover pieces, and by the end of the day they had all had enough gingerbread. Not so the Abbey congregation, who enjoyed eating their own place of worship after the parish communion the next day.
