Dismay as Leeds Baptist deported
by Bill Bowder
CAMPAIGNERS in Leeds were dismayed this week after Grace Cole, a popular member of a Baptist congregation, was deported to Nigeria after an 18-month struggle to remain in the UK. Ms Cole, a convert to Christianity and a qualified accountant, lived in Leeds with two of her four children, and was a member of Moortown Baptist Church. The Baptist Times said that she had fled Nigeria after she refused to be forced into marriage. She had subsequently received death threats. Earlier (News, 15 February), the Bishop of London, the Rt Revd Richard Chartres, described attempts to return another migrant, Damilola Ajagbonna, 19, to Nigeria as “ridiculous”. |
