THE Dioceses

THE Dioceses, Pastoral and Mission Measure 2007 was promulged and executed on Tuesday morning, having received Royal Assent; and the Vacancy-in-See Committees Regulation 1993 was proclaimed as an Act of Synod.

The Synod then gave first consideration to the Draft Church of England Pensions (Amendment) Measure. The Measure sought simply to renew a power that the Synod and Parliament had granted twice before.

The Archdeacon of Rochester, the Ven. Clive Mansell, said that it allowed the Church Commissioners to spend capital for pension purposes, which meant that they had not been forced to focus on short-term income-generation at the expense of long-term performance.

In the briefest of debates, Andrew Britton (Archbishops’ Council) congratulated the Commissioners on their excellent performance over the past few years. The Measure was essential to continuance of that, and spending capital did not mean that the value of the fund declined.
