MARY can now receive the good news from Gabriel, even when he is not there.  That is, if Mary has a mobile phone and attends a church where the priest uses Bluetooth technology.

A single message sent via the Gabriel Communicator reaches everyone on a database, and can be picked up by anyone with a Bluetooth-enabled phone within 100 metres, says Mark Crosby, the public-relations consultant for Txttouch, the company that markets the gadget.

“It can be used to send sermon notes, Bible readings, parish notices, or even music,” he said. “We used the name Gabriel because the angel communicated with a lot of people, including Mary.” It could also be used in evangelism to send out gospel texts to people in shopping centres, pubs, bars, and clubs.

Steve Barber, a leader of the Vineyard church in Leicester, has been using the system for six months to keep in touch with his congregation. “It’s been incredibly useful in keeping members of the church informed, whether to remind them of a barbecue, or if we have to change a venue at short notice.”

The Gabriel Communicator costs £1000.
