Janet Hodgson has made a study of the cross in African spirituality
TRADITIONAL African spirituality is a lived experience, expressed through words and action — in dancing and singing, ululating and rhythmic percussion, drumming and clapping, extempore prayers, and impassioned preaching, processions in church to celebrate important events, baptisms in rivers and the sea, anointing before a journey, and so on.
