LIVERPOOL: Remembering the Blitz

IN MAY, it was the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Liverpool, and the Cathedral welcomed hundreds of schoolchildren to a day of special workshops to commemorate the Blitz and to learn some history at first-hand from people who lived through it.

They were able to see what it was like to spend a night in an Anderson shelter, to handle a real gas mask, and to play with toys from that period. There was a game about “rationing”, and they heard how wartime ...
