No-vote rises
SYDNEY diocesan synod, by overwhelming majorities, has again rejected th1992 Australian General Synod legislation for women priests. Sydney is one ofive Australian dioceses not to adopt the canon. Seventy per cent of lay synod members and 85 per cent of clergy membervoted against the move, an increased level of opposition in comparison with thlast Sydney debate on the issue in 1996.
